ZANESVILLE — The large cat spotted in the southwest part of Muskingum County within the last month was most recently seen in Sheriff Bob Stephenson’s back yard.

The animal was spotted around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the woods near 3200 Wesley Chapel Road. This makes at least 20 sightings of the animal in the past two months.

Sheriff’s deputies are working to trap the animal alive and have left a trap in the wooded area where it was last spotted. An independent group of concerned individuals out of Licking County is assisting in the trapping and relocation of the animal, Stephenson said.

Authorities warn the public not to approach the animal if seen. Instead, call the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office at 452-3637.
