The cat was nicknamed Goliath, but his name is really Hercules, according to owner Geoff Ernest.

Gresham resident Jadwiga Drozdek found the feline stuck in the door Wednesday. She helped him free and gave him a plate of food on the patio

Ernest said he had a house-sitter when he went to Seattle for a lung transplant several months ago and Hercules took off. According to Ernest, Hercules lost five pounds during the time he was missing.

While at the Humane Society, Hercules was diagnosed with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, similar to HIV in humans.

The society said cats can live years with the virus but that owners should keep them indoors to keep the illness from spreading.

Hercules has had his 15 minutes of fame. He has piled up oodles of hits on Youtube and other Web sites.

The Humane Society said it nicknamed the cat Goliath “because of his huge girth and a head that seems to be the size of a basketball.”||01/16/07 at 16:41:28|richard_f
