THE mysterious 'panther' which has been stalking the Whitby countryside has
been spotted again, this time in the town itself.
The so-called 'Beast of the Bay' was seen by a group of friends in the woods
behind St Peter's Court, Whitby, last Sunday at 11am.
Mark Morrison, Jock McCormack and Brian Poole were stood outside the patio
of Mr Morrison's house when he said they saw some deer come running out of
Mr Morrison said: "I saw three deer run out of the wood looking startled.
"I then saw the panther follow them out of the trees. It was about five foot
high and three feet long.
"It had a huge head. It was no more than 200 yards away and was stood there
for about 10 to 15 seconds before it turned around and went back into the
Mr Poole said it looked like a giant alsation.
Mr Morrison, a plumber, has lived at the property for nearly five years but
said this is the first time he has seen the big cat.
"You see deer all the time but when we saw the panther we couldn't believe
it. It was there clear as day."
